Don't be FOOLED by the color in the pan, try it on your hand!

This will be a short and sweet blog post simply because there doesn't need to be much of an explanation in regards to color selection.

You just have to trust your instincts. I went into MAC today looking for a nice contour color, for some reason I always come across the same problem with contour colors (they are too light or too orange). I spoke to the only MAC artist on the floor and she recommended Dark Mineralize Skin Finish and it was too light and too orange (like I said). She then took me to the blushes and showed me Mocha, let me say in her defense I would have picked Mocha too but there was something too pink/plummy about it, it wasn't the brown contour color I was looking for. She wanted to apply it under my cheekbones but I stopped her and swatched it on my hand. It was PINK! A rosy pink but still pink! Last time I checked pink is supposed to go on your cheeks not slim your face. I loved the color on my skin tone but did not purchase it. I kept thinking of it as a contour color which it is not.

Well anyways my point is, swatch things first on your HAND not your face especially if you are out in public, you wouldn't want pink stripes on your forehead, hollows under your cheeks or chin would you?

I found a swatch of mocha (first on the left) just to show you how pink it was! Photo came from KarlaSugar.net

Room Arrangements, Internet Issues and New Background!

My patience has been tested consistently this week. I have had so many service issues with so many companies I was about to enter myself into an institution. The insanity isn't over yet especially with my internet service provider; they just can't seem to get it right. In the past week I've had 3 different wireless routers and all of them have had a problem I am hoping that this Saturday is the last time I see the internet technician. I know this is a makeup blog but boy did I need to get that off my chest.

Now for the Makeup. While this post isn't necessarily based on a product or look, it does have to do with the set up I have just finished (setting up?). I was able to cover my bright blue background with the crown stickers for a much sleeker and more lighting appropriate all white background.

My mother and I were in my room for about 3 hours rearranging my room for prime filming space and while my room looks ridiculously similar to the way it looked before, I feel we accomplished a good filming station.

On a positive note: I found little baskets to hold all of my lipsticks! YAY!

Here are some pictures!

Katy Perry: Music, Makeup (tutorial) and Insight

This post is dedicated to the talented Katy Perry; She is my girl crush, and yes I would love to be her for one day. Since I can't be her I'll just do makeup that looks fairly similar to hers (tutorial above!).

I ran by this post on hellogiggles.com about Katy's insight to pretty much everything from sex to love to cherry chapstick. I feel this post is perfect to quote for my Katy Perry themed tutorial, since she is amazing.  See her movie! Believe me you will love her that much more.

Here are my favorite parts of the post:
Please Keep in Mind I did not write this the credit goes to Jessica Tholmer.

1. When you are in love, you’ll be young forever. It is basically like taking a sip out of that Tuck Everlasting (does anyone else remember how hot Jonathan Jackson is/was?) water. Though when you are in love, you really do feel young forever. The whole being-single-and-not-in-love thing is how you start feeling old. (Enter my best friend’s eye roll.)

 4. If it’s not like the movies, that’s how it should be.
Here’s the deal: I am the most cinematically driven person maybe ever. If something resembles a plotline in a movie, I am so in—even if it is my own love life (it always is) and I gripe about it (I always do) and I talk about how I wish my boys would just man up and put a ring on it (BeyoncĂ© reference—sorry Katy), even though I don’t actually wish that because I am a a terrible commitment-phobe and if I got hitched too soon in life, I would get bored and probably end up in a Closer situation.

7. Do not settle for second best.Just between us dear readers, I will tell you a secret: the song “Thinking of You” made me cry when I saw Katy live last summer. The entire auditorium looked like a live version of Candy Land, but I could not stop the tear flow ’cause I fo sho relate to this song like nobody’s business.

Who is your favorite Musical Artist? Do their teach you about life?

My Bad Habits Take Me Two Steps Back.

I was filming all afternoon yesterday after the most glorious nap. I was so pumped and energized to film my Katy Perry tutorial.

After I was done filming I was exhausted especially with all the editing of film, there were so many "oh's" and "ums" and ridiculous babble that needed to be cut out, after I finished doing that, I noticed something big.

I was chewing gum the entire time! And not in a normal way It was seriously like a cow chewing cud. I showed my mom and she was like "you cannot post that... It looks so dirty!"

I woke up early this morning and refilmed the look. Gum Chewing is a horrible habit to have when filming videos! It's already bad enough that my makeup station cannot stay clean longer than a day, maybe two (My worst habit).

Im hoping I learn to control the messiness and gum chewing for when I film videos... Probably won't happen.

Do you have bad beauty habits or regular habits?

July Glam Bag! High Points and Low Points!

My Artsy Glambag Photo
I received my July GlamBag today and for those and aren't sure what Myglam is; it is essentially a subscription service in which you pay $10 a month for a small bag filled with sample to full size products. I've been on the subscription since a little after it began and while some months are worse than others, I was pleasantly surprised by this months bag.

I'll start with my low points because quite frankly I don't have very many:
  • The Buxom lip gloss while still an amazing sample to get was not a flattering shade for me, I already have deathly pale lips, this lip gloss in Leslie just made them look deathly and sparkly a la Twilight.
  • Buxom Lip Gloss in Leslie
  • The NUME Hydropunch conditioner has a very masculine/sporty scent. While I don't mind it, I can think of this being a reason as to why people don't buy it.
NUME Conditioner

Now for the high points:
Juice Beauty Green Apple Moisturizer
  • This is by far my favorite MyGlam bag simply because the bag itself is a nice mesh texture that does not hold that factory plastic smell.
  • The Juice Beauty Green Apple Moisturizer smells wonderfully of...citrus. I love that so far about this sample because green apple smell could make me nauseous and the citrus scent is more rejuvenating.
  • I was super excited when I received the Yes to Cucumber Face Towelettes (I've been eyeing them at Walgreens) I actually tried one yesterday thanks to my friend Michelle and fell in love with the scent so I will most definitely be using these sparingly so they last! Want to know the best part? They gave me a package holding 10 Towelettes which to me is FANTASTIC!
  • Last but certainly not least is the full size Circus by Andrea's Choice Nail Color in Somersault. I'm a big fan of Andrea's channel and receiving this beautiful creamy yellow nail polish made this GlamBag that much more wonderful!

    Circus Nail Polish in Somersault

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed receiving this GlamBag! I think it was smart on their end to give us Summer friendly products! Before I end the blog I want to thank a good friend of mine Jennifer for creating the new heading of my blog!
Are any of you subscribed to a beauty box? If so, which one? How do you like the subscription so far?

First Tutorial! Feeling like a Beauty Queen

I am feeling pretty darn good today. I have accomplished a lot on my "beauty bucket list" this week. It may not seem like very much,  but I have been holding off on creating makeup videos for as long as I have had an excuse to do makeup videos. This  blog I owe to my friend Rocky who gave me the push I needed to just write about what I like.

The video on YouTube however, I owe to my boyfriend who has done everything in his power to get me in front of the camera to start filming. And after all the let downs with filming and editing in the past few days (see previous blog) I am super glad and actually quite proud of the first video on my YouTube Channel.

Thanks to those who have read and watched! I already have my inspiration for my next tutorial. Katy Perry does no wrong in my eye musically and stylishly. Lets hope I can do this "KP" look justice.

P.S. Please send any requests to Blush.Kiss.Face@gmail.com!!

How Many Filming Disasters Can I Take? A lot Apparently.

It has been 2 days since my last post and I was fairly disappointed in myself for not writing a post yesterday. In my defense I have been filming my first three tutorials and that was an adventure to say the least. On Friday one of my closest friends Rocky (http://Beautyandthebooks21.blogspot.com) came over for our first day of filming, and while I can do my own makeup, it's a completely different experience doing someone else's makeup. Especially if that person happens to be your best friend and you can't stop talking to them about everything other than makeup.

To make matters worse, I was getting overheated from the moving around quite a bit as "director" and makeup artist" and the stress of my dog Milo (Don't be fooled by his cuteness) wanting to enter and exit the room constantly. Actually doing the makeup took me 20 minutes, with "Milo" interruptions and  being constantly stopped by giggles, dropping makeup products (I broke a blush -  was able to salvage it though!) and technical difficulties filming, this one tutorial took me 34 minutes! After all the edits I was able to create a makeup tutorial with so many cuts you would think you were on acid. Needless to say that particular "tutorial take" is not going up on my YouTube channel at (http://www.youtube.com/user/blushkissmakeup).

That was only the beginning.  It was my turn to do a makeup tutorial and my mom took the initiative to help me film.  It wasn't until half way through the tutorial we noticed intense screaming and crying coming from the other bedroom. My dad was watching The Ruins, some horrific movie at the loudest possible volume. I could not salvage any video because there was screaming through the entire thing; I don't know how I didn't notice earlier so that tutorial was out.

Saturday was a new day and I was sure that I was going to have a day similar to Friday but I had to try. Before I went to film I turned off all of the televisions and closed my door to avoid any unwanted noise. I went in and filmed my tutorial in 20 minutes. I had everything prepared so the filming itself went pretty smoothly. I felt so accomplished, then the editing came and that ruined my night. After editing what I thought was a great video, my computer would not let me produce a final copy and erased my project all together.

I won't keep rambling, I think I've done enough of that. I was able to edit the last video again and it is on it's way to be uploaded to YouTube. I love makeup and I love filming the looks, but this editing business needs to be easier. Hrmph!

Should You Blindly Trust A Makeup Artist? NO, NO, NO!

I had an experience a few months back while I was in Ecuador for my brother's wedding. I have a total of 5 aunts and all of them decided to get one particular makeup artist since they loved his work. According to my aunts he had done the makeup for some television stars over there and he was top notch. Maybe it's the culture, maybe it is more acceptable over in Ecuador but I could not understand for one second why this makeup artist was putting foundation that was TWO to THREE shades lighter on my aunt's faces! It was to the point that in the pictures they legitimately looked like Natalie Portman in Black Swan. This may sound harsh but believe me it was not a pretty sight. Unfortunately, they had also paid for this makeup artist to do my makeup. I went in prepared, I handed him my MAC NC35 foundation and asked him to use it. Luckily for me in my brothers wedding pictures my neck and shoulders match my face. I cannot however speak for my aunts. They should have listened to me when I said I'd do their makeup, for free!

Out of respect for my family I wont post those pictures but here is an example of Leighten Meester experiencing "Black Swan Face".

No Makeup Bag Equals Desperate Times

Most people who own makeup usually keep the same products and use them consistently. Now, this isn't my attempt to brag about how much makeup I have. Even with all the products I own,  I have a small case filled with my favorite products that I use daily. It just so happens that I have left my case at my boyfriend's house.

It was when he was driving me home that I realized my makeup case was 20 minutes away and it was just too late to turn around. I silently cursed myself for the rest of the ride. This morning I cursed myself even more because I was planning on filming a makeup tutorial. I could have just used the makeup I keep in my storage department (a.k.a. my suitcase). It just was not happening.

After rummaging through my shadows, blush palettes and the extra face products I couldn't get over parting  with my Origins SPF15 Moisturizer and  Urban Decay Naked Palette . Or even the fact that ALL of my makeup brushes were left behind! I wanted to cry because blending your eye shadow with your finger is not as easy as everyone makes it seem, or maybe my fingers are just too wide. In these desperate times I will just have to do my tutorial later, all the makeup in the world is no good to me without my brushes...

Blushing, Kissing, and a lot of Makeup

It is that most delicious moment, the one where you are so close that even his breathing can cause your knee's to buckle. The unforgettable first kiss, it doesn't matter how many first kisses you have but each and every time it is new and exciting but from the outside, it is the same as any other kiss. That feeling happens to me everyday, that glow from within comes to me, in the form of...Makeup. You read that right. Lipstick, Blush, Bronzer, Eyeshadow, Foundation, the list goes on and on but each product I have purchased or been given has made my heart hiccup and has made me jollier than Santa Clause. Ask anyone who knows me, my best friends will say i'm sick in the head and OBSESSED with makeup. I am obsessed but it is my hobby and passion, not some man( that would be a problem). I hope this gives you a little insight of what I am like, I hope you are interested to see how my affair with makeup progresses.
Is there anything that makes your heart swell with happiness? A person? A hobby?
